3 CCW Handguns that Lock n Load with Thumb Safety

If your gun is in the concealed carry weapon's category, chances are that it has an added safety feature. Trigger and magazine safeties do their jobs well, but what if you wanted to carry safely while still having one in the chamber ready to go?

During my first year of carrying a handgun, I would have these thoughts about whether my gun would go off while in its holster. Back then in 2005 I was carrying a Glock 23. Though there was a trigger safety feature, the trigger could still be pulled while holstering. Rather any object that could depress the trigger safety would ultimately all the trigger to be pulled and the gun would fire. From then on I wanted a gun with a physical safety. One that I consciously knew was activated. That kind of safety feature would give me a better peace of mind while carrying. Plus it would save me the embarrassment should my gun just suddenly go off while on me. I knew about the Colt 1911 and its
thumb safety, which you'll see featured in the main picture of this post. That gun defined the term "locked n loaded". It's worked for over 100 years with our Military as well as Civilians. Below are just 3 very well put together CCW handguns that feature a thumb safety.

3 CCW handguns that lock and load with the thumb safety feature

Sturm and Ruger LC9s

First up is the Ruger LC9s with safety. If you like Sturm and Ruger guns, then this is a must have. It's been one of the top selling  handguns since it was introduced in 2011. You need to sure it has the thumb safety as the gun is manufactured with and without one. Consumer choice has always been one of Ruger's best selling points. Two LC9 pistols are featured in the picture, but only the gun on the left has a thumb safety. You can see it behind the slide stop. If you want something light with really good sights and decent magazine capacity this is for you. The company's guns are super reliable. With a slim design that wouldn't cause any rubbing bruises to accrue as you carry.

Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 9mm

Even if you don't know what they do, you may still have heard the name in your life time. Smith & Wesson is one of the holy grail names in firearms and the M&P Shield proves it. The company has sold over 1 million of these in the U.S. alone. It's about 2.5 oz. heavier than the Ruger above, but that will help to handle the recoil better. The weight comes from some of the gun components being made from stainless steel. The body of the gun isn't as smooth as the Ruger either. Though that shouldn't be a deal breaker, I thought I'd just let you know. Every gun isn't as smooth as a Glock, but remember Glock's don't have a thumb safety. Overall this is another great choice when considering a concealed carry weapon that gives its user the right to carry locked n loaded.

Sig Sauer P938

If you can afford to spurge and spend an extra $150-$200 on a CCW, then get a Sig Sauer. Sig's P938 is a micro-compact pistol, so it's smaller than the other guns featured in this post. The company has contracts with many local law enforcement branches and Military. Not to take any points away from Ruger or Smith & Wesson. Sig guns are just top shelf firearms and the price goes with it. Budsgunshop is selling a Nitron version for $543.00. Compared to the other two guns featured here, the Sig offers a couple of upgrades like ambidextrous thumb safety and a physical trigger. That means that you can also fire the gun in single action mode. Out of all three guns this one is the smallest, attracting both women and men to purchase it. I've heard of men who've purchased this gun for their wife, but use or carry it more often then their lady. Overall, you will not feel like you've overspent if you buy this gun.
